I am so thankful this year for all the man hours that have been spent making things for the Texas Health and JPS Hospitals’ NICU. The wee ones have been wrapped in clothing and blankets while the families have been covered in comfort and prayer. It gives our need to sew and create a purpose and we delight to do so.

Yesterday our meeting time was spent making coverings for pillows used as developmental aids. These coverings will be soft and comfy to prop little heads, arms, and legs. Thanks To Joyce and Claire for coming together on this idea.

Happy Thanksgiving!

She put me to work right away cutting out frogs bean bags as she worked on a special carry case. Lovies were appearing left and right. We also traded ideas and patterns. She has promised to come visit Saginaw’s TOL soon.

This was a great week of deliveries for JPS and Harris Hospital: Blankets, Booties, Hats, and Lovies. A total of 73 items this month. Great Job Ladies and Happy Sewing!

A big thank you to Baby Lock for lending us their machines. It was a joy to meet a sister chapter from Cleburne. I met with Carol Roberson and her group and we learned alot from each other. Her sewing room was so organized. I was a little green (with envy). Happy Sewing!

The Ladies of the Evening gathered around tables to cut fabric for the upcoming sewing market among other things. Nearly 36 yards of fabric was cut in to Lovies for our sewathon next weekend in Arlington. Conversation was lively and entertaining. Polyfiberfil was shaped into heads and at the end of the evening we had made the same number of heads as we had cut bodies. Well done! Threads of Love has a booth every year at the Martha Pullen Sewing Market. Each summer machines whirrrrr sewing up goodies for JPS and Texas Health NICU’s. This summer will be no different. Happy sewing.

The fall brings a busy season as we ready for the holidays in and out of our homes. We delivered 126 items for the month of October to Harris and John Peter Smith Hospitals. One item that was welcomed by nurses in the Labor and Delivery was the crib covers in which to take the babies pictures that had the Harris Hospital logo at the foot and the top.\r\n\r\nWe have begun our Christmas blankets at our meetings. The sergers were whirring away on yards of pretty fabric to wrap babies in while taking pictures with Santa. I hope to donate upwards of 100 blankets and we will beat our total from last year of 67.\r\n\r\nI attended the national Threads of Love meeting in Louisville, KY in early October. What a great time of networking and learning. Anna Maria was definitely the hostess with the mostest. She made every minute of this past convention a wonderful memory. The next one is in North Carolina in 2010. I know Susan will do a great job of organizing it. Can”t wait!

All in all we made 100 decorated diaper shirts for those little ones at John Peter Smith Hospital. Julia from the volunteer office came to receive them on Saturday. I want to thank Richland Sewing Center for those wonderful Viking Sewing machines. I know what I want under my tree for Christmas. I also want to thank Martha Pullen Company for the batiste fabric that was donated for us to make some lovely shirts for those wee ones in the NICU.

Most of us have never experienced a premature birth. Yet hospitals experience this daily with many babies being born prematurely. As a Threads of Love Chapter, we make things for the premature baby whether it survives the birth or not. It is a way of reaching out to a family who is experiencing difficulty and saying we care about what you are having to deal with at the moment. The three main departments that we make something for are the ER where a miscarriage may happen, Labor and Delivery where a stillbirth can happen and then the Neonatal ICU where a preemie has survived and needs the attention of doctors and nurses round the clock. Many hours of time, yards fabric and miles of thread and love go into this ministry and we are glad to do it.
